As we all know, bird food is essential for birds to survive.
So often, our feathered friends are deprived of their food because squirrels and other intruders have stolen it.
At Meripac, we have devised a number of ways to deal with this common problem. We have invented products that allow the birds to reach the food but stop the squirrels.
If your main problem is squirrels and you have sufficient garden space, then the first line of defence is to buy one of our Meripac squirrel baffles. Their unique "wobble" action means that the Meripac squirrel baffles will prevent squirrels reaching the feeder, provided it is far enough away from a fence or tree so that the squirrel cannot jump the distance:
Often the intruders at our feeding stations are larger birds as well as squirrels.
Then, further defences are necessary to ensure that the correct guests eat the bird food.
Meripac has two solutions for this:
The first is the fixed mesh guard. This comes in two shapes - rectangular with 45mm approx mesh width gaps - or round with 35mm approx mesh width gaps.
These will keep out pigeons, doves and larger squirrels.
The second solution for all year round protection is the Meripac double-meshTM system.
Young squirrels are fully mobile and start fending for themselves in late Spring and early Autumn. At that time, they are about three-quarters the size of an adult. They grow to nearly adult size by the onset of Winter.
The mesh gap widths on the Meripac double-meshTM system can be easily varied to deal with the changing size of the squirrels.
In Summer/Autumn, you can narrow the mesh gap to keep young squirrels out and to allow in the smaller birds.
In Winter/Spring, you can widen the mesh gaps to allow in larger birds like Nuthatches at a time when they really need your help.
A fixed mesh system will either allow small squirrels in during Summer/Autumn or will unnecessarily restrict bird access in Winter/Spring
